When my family outgrew our historic craftsman home in NE Portland, we decided to double down by adding a primary suite to the main house and a detached ADU with a home office on ground level and a rental unit on the second.

The main house addition blends in with its 19th century 'host' in scale and palette, while the ADU expresses itself as the edgier young cousin.
